Temple University, Japan Campus
Japan
Term: Academic Year
Description:
Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) has been providing a top-quality post-secondary American education since 1982. The Tokyo campus of Temple University in Philadelphia is the oldest and largest foreign university in Japan, and the first to be officially recognized by Japan's Ministry of Education as a Foreign University, Japan Campus. Temple University in Philadelphia is the 26th-largest university in the U.S. and one of the nation's leading providers of professional education. Temple is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and that accreditation extends to TUJ. TUJ maintains the high academic standards and requirements of the main campus and conducts all classes in English. A degree earned at TUJ is exactly the same as one from Temple University. Credits earned at other universities are also transferable to TUJ. At TUJ, students also gain firsthand knowledge of Japan and experience a diverse multicultural academic environment, including approximately 3,000 students from over 40 countries. An average class size of 15 students ensures a high level of personal attention and lively discussions. With 11 majors - including one in business administration that will start up during the fall 2007 semester - TUJ offers more academic options than any other university in Japan with an English-based curriculum. Many TUJ programs, from economics and international relations to psychology and art, have integrated Japan-related content into their curricula. You'll also be able to choose from a broad range of courses on Japanese business, politics, history and culture, supplemented by Japanese-language classes of all levels.
Highlights:
In addition to a unique academic experience, TUJ students have the opportunity to gain a firsthand understanding of the world's cultures and languages. *An International Network Once enrolled at TUJ, students have the option to study at the main campus or at integrated campuses and programs around the world, and to apply the credits earned toward their Temple degree. With nearly 40% of the TUJ student body representing over 40 countries, student life both in and out of the classroom is truly international. *Cultural Experience Cultural events and field trips to unique parts of Japan are offered throughout the year. Examples include attending a sumo match, cherry-blossom viewing, a trip to Kyoto, and visiting the Hokkaido Snow Festival. *Student Activities The International Festival is a major campus event rich in cultural diversity held every autumn, with students from around the world presenting ethnic dances and foods from their native countries. Another popular event is the annual Halloween party, celebrated the American way by dressing up in scary or humorous costumes. *Career Development Office TUJs Career Development Office provides students with assistance and advice on preparing for a career, writing a resume, and interview techniques. The office sponsors a career fair twice each year where students meet representatives of Japanese and multinational companies and explore their career opportunities. Many world-leading multinational corporations and organizations in Tokyo offer internships to TUJ students each semester. Students can earn up to eight course credits through these internships. *Institute of Contemporary Japanese Studies (ICJS) ICJS strives to increase understanding of Japan and its culture. The WAKAI project, for example, engages students and others in examining issues facing young Japanese, while a series of year-round lectures bring distinguished guest speakers in to address topics covering Japanese politics, economics, and culture. *Location TUJ is situated in central Tokyo, close to the pop culture of Shibuya, the history of Asakusa, and other districts of the city that embody both Japans contemporary energy and its traditions.
