B.P.S. in Interior Design

  Italy

  • Florence

Description: The interior design program builds on the College's strong liberal arts tradition with a curriculum designed to keep pace with the changing needs of the industry. Students develop creative, technical, and business skills that position them for successful employment in design, manufacturing, retailing, or sales management. Internships are an integral part of the learning experience in the program, as is the increasing use of technology, including computer-aided design.

The study of interior design is an intersection of visual, technical, and architectural design principles designed to enhance a student's understanding of space, creativity, and art. The bachelor's degree curriculum has been designed with an innovative foundation in both classic interior design and architectural rendering that will allow students to become practitioners in the field. A liberal arts foundation provides for broad development in artistic and philosophical disciplines while areas of specialization allow students to develop their particular talents and skills in the interior design profession. The faculty of the interior design program believe that a study of contemporary culture and social principles is essential for the modern designer. A student's creative and analytical skills, combined with the practical elements of business and spatial engineering, will help prepare them for a career in interior design.

The interior design program features a comprehensive curriculum leading to the baccalaureate degree of professional studies (BPS). Students may choose from two tracks within the program.

B.P.S. in Interior Design

Highlights: The four-year bachelor's degree program is offered by Marist College in collaboration with Lorenzo de'Medici and is designed primarily for international students and new freshman applicants in the United States. Marist College is based in New York but is able to offer this degree program on its Middestates-accredited branch campus in Florence. Upon completion of this program students will receive a bachelor's degree from Marist College. All coursework and related activities are conducted exclusively at the LdM sites in Italy. Students enrolled in the degree program have unparalleled access to all of LdM's facilities, events, festivals, and services, as well as additional services provided by Marist College, including an e-database for research. Lorenzo de' Medici's Mission Statement: Lorenzo de' Medici is committed to helping students realize their own potential, providing a quality education that will enable them to interact successfully with the community worldwide. The School aims to excite and enable students to experience a first class educational and social environment which enlarges their minds, stimulates their talent, and emphasizes the importance of values and the pursuit of knowledge. We also seek to develop real, multi-disciplinary projects in our classes that involve as many of our departments as possible. In this way, we prepare our students to face the actual challenges of their respective fields. Students obtain truly relevant work-related experience by collaborating with colleagues both inside and outside of their specific areas of interest. Then, the results of this collaboration are presented externally for public appreciation and expert evaluation.
