Term: Summer
Dates: June 26 - August 6, 2010
Description:
The University of Oslo International Summer School (ISS) is a center for learning in an international context, offering courses in the humanities, social sciences, media studies, health care, energy planning and sustainable development, and international development studies, to an average of 500 students from more than ninety nations each summer. The ISS is held from late June to early August at the University of Oslo. We are also pleased to offer a new graduate course in Human Rights. All ISS courses are taught in English, except for the intensive Norwegian language courses and an advanced course in Norwegian literature. Many of the courses focus on various aspects of Norwegian and Scandinavian culture, others deal with topics of broad international interest where the Norwegian model may serve as a basis for discussion. Studying and living along with fellow students from all over the world contributes to a unique cultural experience. The gathering of many nationalities from East and West, North and South in the amicable, constructive atmosphere of a small North European country provides a stimulating intellectual environment which establishes a foundation for deeper understanding and confidence between people from different backgrounds.
Highlights:
The ISS offers a wide range of cultural and social activities and events, including folklore evenings, film seminars, debate meetings, sports, and extensive excursion programs to sights in Oslo and the mountains and fjords of rural Norway. ISS students elect a student council which is actively involved in initiating and implementing extracurricular events. (Photo: Sissel Drevsjø ©)
