The Master of Science in Gender and Development Studies (GDS) at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is a two-year master program of 48 credits. Students can take one of two options: 1) Thesis option: 28 credits in courses, the remaining credits are for thesis research, usually consisting of field work in Thailand or other countries. 2) Research option: 38 credits in courses. Compared with the thesis option, the research option is for a smaller research project. The degree has been given since 1997, and is awarded by the AIT, a center of excellence in research and education in Asia. Gender and Development Studies (GDS) is a center for graduate studies, research and outreach in the School of Environment, Resources and Development, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). Within the overall gender specific framework, GDS highlights both the need for specialized academic degree awarding studies in gender and development, and the integration of gender analysis and a gender relations perspectives in AIT's other fields of study. GDS offers graduate level courses and provides substantial input to student's Masters dissertation research. Short courses and workshops are also offered on gender planning and gender analysis.
Highlights:
Students at AIT and GDS come from all over the world, although the majority comes from the Asia Pacific region. GDS boasts an international faculty with strong research and academic experience in gender and development. Most of our students receive scholarships or partial fellowships, and conduct research on current development issues in Asia. The AIT has acres of beautiful green and leafy spaces intersected by canals. Its campus includes housing, sports, and medical facilities, a conference center, and a library with over 230,000 volumes and 830 print and on-line periodicals. AIT has close to 2000 graduate students from 46 Countries and 112 Faculty from 23 Countries.

Cost Include Description:
Registration and tuition fees for the entire two years of the program. Accommodation and living should cost about US$360 a month on average, which is not part of the tuition fees.

Scholarships are Available. - AIT offers third-party scholarships (provided by donors, governments, etc) and also provides partial fellowships (AIT covers part of the tuition fees) based on student's ability to pay and the strength of their candidacy. About 60% of students admitted to AIT receive full financial aid and about 80% of students admitted receive sufficient financial aid to cover at least half of the cost of their studies.
