St. John International University (SJIU) is a private, American university offering both undergraduate and graduate programs. With its campus located in the 16th century Della Rovere Castle in Vinovo (Torino), Italy, SJIU is an ideal location for blending the rich humanistic tradition of Italy with the American liberal Arts system of today The B.A. in Film Studies offers students the possibility to learn about influential filmmakers, compare and discuss the cinematic works of different nations, explore the economic and political forces behind films and evaluate the relationship between cinema and other art forms. Students enrolled in this program will not only gain a solid understanding of the complex factors pertaining to cinema, but also the necessary tools to think critically and attentively about this art form. SJIU' approach to Film Studies involves that of a traditional humanities program and the development of skills on a broad cultural and intellectual base. As an academic discipline, Film Studies have always been key for the study of international culture, international identity and aesthetics. Therefore, the aim of this program is to combine relevant theoretical studies with selected case studies and the critical/historical analysis of cinema as a public art, creative industry and social phenomenon. Due to its location in the dynamic urban environment of Torino, the Film Studies program at SJIU is particularly well-suited to study the rich cultural identity of contemporary cinema. In fact, students will be able to go beyond the academic borders of the university in order to come into contact with film activities within the city such as the Torino Film Festival, the National Museum of Cinema and the Film Commission.

No matter where a student is from, the academic experience of St. John International University will be enriched by living in Torino - a city alive with art, culture and commerce. Torino, along with the entire Piedmont region is steeped in Italian tradition whiles its location on the peninsula has allowed for a close relationship with the rest of Europe as well. Following the American tradition, the academic year begins in September, ends in May, and is divided into two 15-week semesters. All courses are taught in English with the exception of language courses. SJIU's housing office provides students with assistance in housing placement. Standard housing is in full-fully furnished apartments shared with other international students. These accommodations are conveniently located near the city center with access to campus by public transport.
