Description:
The International Development Program (IDP) at the International University of Japan (IUJ) was founded in 1995. It is one of the pioneer programs in the field of international development in Japan. It is designed to educate future leaders in formulating and implementing economic and public policies geared for social and economic development. The program has built up its high quality reputation through rigorous academic training combined with practical policy oriented methods. Since its establishment, it has trained a few hundred civil servants and policy makers from more than 30 countries in the world. Most of IDP alumni have been working in important economic and public policy formulating agencies such as central bank, ministry of finance, ministry of trade, etc.. Some of them have joined major international development agencies such as UNDP, the World Bank and ADB. They have performed vital roles in formulating development polices and improving the welfare of the developing world.
Highlights:
* IDP is one of the four partner programs of the IMF Asia-Pacific scholarship programs in Japan. Together with the English language program of IUJ, IDP has been entrusted by the IMF to conduct the refresh training courses for all of the IMF scholars coming to Japan every summer since 2005. * IDP is the first program accepting JDS scholars in Japan. It has accepted JDS scholars most among all the academic programs of Japanese universities. * IDP is also a designated program to accept JICA long-term scholars who are government officers from developing countries receiving Japanese ODA. * IDP has been selected by the Indonesian government to establish linkage Master programs with three Indonesian universities. Under the linkage programs, more than 20 Indonesian government officers will join IDP every year from 2007 to 2012. * IDP is also a designated program to accept ADB scholars who are financed by the Asian Development Bank.

Scholarships are Available. IUJ offers the following 4 types of scholarships on a competitive basis:
1) Type A: 83% Exemption of Admission fee, full exemption of tuition, stipend of 100,000 Japanese yen (approx. USD 930)
2) Type B: 83% Exemption of Admission fee, full exemption of tuition
3) Type C: 30% exception of tuition
4) Type S: 50% exception of tuition
Also, IUJ recommends candidates for scholarship foundations such as ADB, IDB, Japanese Government, and many others.
