Description: The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is one of the UAE's oldest and most prestigious universities. Established in 1993 by the University of Wollongong in Australia, UOWD represented a very early Australian initiative in the UAE. From a small beginning at Al Mulla Plaza, through its landmark presence on Jumeirah Road to its current location at Dubai Knowledge Village, UOWD is recognized as being an integral part of Dubai.

As an independent UAE institution of higher education, UOWD attracts students not just from the UAE and Australia but from all over the world. Approximately 3,500 students from more than 90 nationalities are currently enrolled at UOWD and enjoy a quality academic experience. International students are given comprehensive welcome information by our Student Services department to help settle in a new country.

UOWD offers a variety of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs. A comprehensive range of BCom specializations and IT programs are offered at the Undergraduate level. The Postgraduate Programs offer specializations such as International Business, Marketing, Human Resources Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Technology, IT Management, Finance, Banking and MBA.

The Centre of Culture and Language offers part time and full time language courses in English and Arabic. Courses range from English University preparation to part time Arabic classes and teacher training. Our local teachers focus on the linguistic as well as cultural experience with students and the two month summer Arabic program projects Dubai's diversity.

Wedged between Europe and Asia and buttressed by Africa, Dubai is building energetically on the advantages of its location, centuries-old trading savvy and oil wealth. From the timeless tranquility of the desert to the lively bustle of the souk, Dubai offers a kaleidoscope of attractions for its residents and visitors.

Dubai embraces a wide variety of scenery in a very small area. In a single day, visitors may experience everything from rugged mountains and awe-inspiring sand dunes to sandy beaches and lush green parks, from dusty villages to luxurious residential districts with manicured golf courses and from ancient houses with wind towers to ultra-modern shopping malls.

Dubai is both a lively international business and IT hub and a laid-back tourist escape; a city where the sophistication of the 21st century walks hand in hand with the simplicity of a bygone era. Since time immemorial, Dubai has been a meeting place, bringing together the Bedouin of the desert interior with the pearl-diver, the merchant of the city with the sea-going fisherman. It is still playing the role of intermediary between these vastly different cultures, the only difference being that air travel has significantly increased the number of visitors to the country.

At first glance, the city presents a predominantly modern face, an ever-changing skyline of new developments, from striking glass and concrete towers to gracious modern buildings incorporating traditional Arabian architectural motifs and features. Traditional Arab hospitality and a delightful winter climate complemented by a crime-free environment have contributed in recent years to create an ideal atmosphere for the development of Dubai as a destination for leisure and recreation.
