Description:
Domus Academy's Master Program in Car Design is part of the design logic of an increasing functional relation between mobility and territory, facing the complexity of developing vehicles suited to new needs. Automotive companies need a new generation of car designers, capable to integrate tradition with changing and diverse market requirements and new technological developments. The Master in Car Design aims at updating and developing professional competencies of young, promising designers. It benefits from Italian car design tradition, and it pursues an integrated design approach, where means of transportation are built respecting ergonomics, safety, without forgetting the environmental impact, and taking into a very serious account aesthetics. The Car Design Master Program lasts from April 2009 to March 2010; it is articulated into lectures, testimonials and field visits, research projects, workshops and a final Master thesis. The Master in Car Design follows the pedagogical approach of "learning by designing", where participants learn by a direct, active involvement in several design experiences. Here the challenge relies in designing not only what theory and experience say it is possible, but to look beyond and developing concepts that will be the cars of the future, pursuing a method to direct the existing know-how towards an innovating vision. The Car Design Master Program aims at strengthening participants' design competencies together with the development of their managerial profile. At the end of the program, they will be ready to work as car designers within the framework of a company or design studio organisation, and they will be able to effectively interact with the marketing, production and finance functions.
