Master Program in Language and Culture - 120 credits
Sweden
Description:
This master's program prepares students for work, further studies or research in any of the following subjects: English, French, German, Spanish, Swedish, Comparative Literature and General Linguistics. The program aims to stimulate an independent and critical approach to the study of language and literature, and to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to contribute to developments in this field as teachers or researchers or other professional capacities. Students will develop their capacity for informed analysis of the history, development and characteristics of European languages and literature. With a focus on major epochs and languages, the program will develop broad, interdisciplinary competence in linguistic, literary and anthropological theories and methods, and explore language processes and literary texts in their own cultural context. The materials studied range from everyday conversations to novels, plays, poems, and films. Specific requirements: In-depth study of at least 90 credits, i.e. 3 semesters of full-time study in one of the following subjects: Comparative Literature, General Linguistics, English, French, German, Spanish or Swedish, and approximately two semesters of full-time study in another subject that is relevant to the program, including a paper corresponding to approximately 10 weeks of study (15 credits). Each applicant must enclose a Letter of Intent written in English, explaining why they want to study this program, and a summary of their degree thesis or project.
