Description:
Today's engineers deal less with single components that can be clearly assigned to the areas of mechanics or electronics, but more and more with complex and cross-curricular systems. Coping with such complex systems likewise requires an interdisciplinary training that enables graduates to systemically solve problems. The degree program Systems Design allows the students to gain an in-depth technical knowledge in one of the above areas of specialization.
Highlights:
Systems Design is dedicated to designing and implementing complex technical systems with special regards to a holistic design in an earlier phase of planning and conceptualizing. The focus of the degree program is the training of self-dependent engineers who have special knowledge in areas such as Embedded Systems, mechatronics, IT, or control engineering and who are able to think holistically at the same time. A common in-depth training in system theory, mathematics, computer science, numerical methods, and control technology is followed by one of four specializations: Mechatronic Systems combine the fields of mechanical engineering, electrotechnology/electronics and IT. Today it is no longer possible to separate these three interrelated fields. The modern engineer must be able to understand and design complete technical systems and the individual components in these systems. Only then the engineer can effectively transform development potential into technological and economic progress. Control Systems play a pivotal role in technical systems. Analytical system implementation is therefore of key importance in both the analysis of existing systems and in the conceptualization of new complex systems. The ability to control dynamic systems requires knowledge of the entire process, ranging from designing to testing and implementing control systems. Graduates find employment prospects with any company involved in the design of new complex technical systems or in finding solutions for control system tasks for high-tech product development. Embedded Systems are electronic systems integrated (embedded) in systems that are controlled or monitored. They consist of a combination of hardware (microcontroller, signal processor, ASIC, etc.) and software (program control and communications control). They often contain interfaces to their environment, which fulfill the tasks of sensors and actuators. Embedded systems constitute an integral part of communications devices, vehicles, medical technology as well as machinery and industrial plants. Remote Systems deal with the design and implementation of virtual and remote work environments as well as the common use, organization, control, and maintenance of devices, equipment, and software tools. The results are progressive technological solutions leading to the platform-independent and web-based use of hardware and software resources in the field of engineering.
