The Master's Program in Physics is a two-year study program offered by the Department of Physics at Umea University. The language of instruction is English. The program, which gives the student the possibility to acquire deeper knowledge and abilities within one or several sub-areas of physics, is fully adapted to the common Bologna structure of the higher education in Europe. The program starts in August/September (autumn semester) every year, but it is possible to apply for a start in January (spring semester) as well. Highlights:
The main specializations of the program are Computational Physics, Condensed Matter Physics/Nanotechnology, Theoretical Physics, Optical Physics/Measurement Physics, Quantum Mechanics/Quantum Technique and Space Physics, but the students have large freedom to choose courses and specializations according to their own interests and ambitions. The study program includes an independent project work of 30 ECTS credits, presented in the form of a written Master's Thesis. The project can be chosen from among any of the current fields of research at the department: Condensed Matter Physics, Nanophysics, Optical Physics, Laser Cooling and Trapping, Plasma Physics, Flame Dynamics, General Relativity, Statistical Physics, Quantum Physics, Computational Physics, Complex Networks, Space Physics and Physics Education. It is also possible to do a Master's project outside the department, in for example a company.

No tution fees, but students are required to show evidence to the Swedish Migration Agency that they can support themselves with approx. SEK 7300 per month to obtain a residence permit for studies.
