Study at John Cabot University in Rome this Summer!
Italy
Term: Summer
Description:
A Summer Session at John Cabot University is an intense, demanding and gratifying experience. By choosing from the wide variety of three-credit courses offered each Summer Session, you will be accelerating your academic progress under the tutelage of a first-rate international faculty. The benefits are compounded by the inevitable cultural enhancement that comes from studying and living abroad. John Cabot University is situated in the Trastevere quarter (the 'Transtiber' of the ancient Romans) within the compound of the prestigious Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. A fifteen minute walk takes you to the seat of the Roman Catholic Church and the Sistine Chapel, and nearby Castel Sant'Angelo, the hiding place of the popes during the Guelf-Ghibelline wars of the Middle Ages. In another direction is the Pantheon, built as a Roman temple in 25 BC, one of the most influential buildings in the world. The chance to study first-hand - even touch - Italian Baroque art and architecture is close by, at the fountains of Bernini and Borromini, as are the ruins of the Roman Forum and the Flavian Amphitheatre, better known as the Colosseum. Raphael's frescoes are literally next door to John Cabot, in the Villa Farnesina, as is the world-famous library in the Palazzo Corsini, across the street, where you can study from 15th century books. You can learn and practice Italian language and gain immediate exposure to Italian theatre, opera, and cinema. In addition, the rest of the courses are taught by a multicultural faculty, giving you a global perspective to your studies to take home. This focused and unique learning opportunity is set against the backdrop of one of the world's most fascinating cities. Enjoy the vibrant 'Estate Romana' (Roman Summer), when Rome comes alive with outdoor concerts, stage performances and dance recitals in ancient amphitheaters and art exhibitions in Renaissance palaces and gardens. In addition, JCU organizes day trips to the Tivoli gardens with its majestic fountains, and interesting lectures given by prominent guests in the University's outdoor courtyards. Wine-tasting seminars and gourmet cooking classes are also held on the University's top terrace, which commands spectacular views. Theme nights and welcome barbeques provide an opportunity for all our students to get to know one another. Summer students are also given special weekend beach passes to a nearby resort area. In addition, as part of the Summer Sports program, JCU offers belly-dancing, yoga, sailing and free access to neighborhood gyms and swimming pool. The diversity and richness of all that JCU offers during the summer is guaranteed to make these months unforgettable. Where do students live? Students who do not already reside in Rome can ask John Cabot to arrange Housing. They will live in a shared apartment in Trastevere, in the vicinity of the University, during the 5 weeks of the program. You will live as the Romans do, within an authentic Roman neighborhood with its many coffee bars, restaurants, trattorie, gelaterie and open-air markets, in a picturesque setting of ivy covered walls and cobblestone streets, bordered by the river Tiber. What courses are offered? JCU offers two exciting summer programs that include an impressive selection of classes in the areas of Art History, Italian Studies, Business Administration, International Relations, Communications and more. The Summer course schedule is coming soon!
