Post-Graduate Certificate plus Work in Canada

  Canada
  • Ontario:
  • Toronto

Term: Fall, Spring, Summer, Winter
Dates: all year round

Description: Education is provided at public colleges in Greater Toronto Area, Ontario and the internship and work placement services are provided by WISH Canada Recruit Inc.

This unique program allows students that have international degrees in any discipline to get a Canadian education in a short period and gain valuable Canadian work experience after graduation from the college. Work placement services can be provided either by WISH Canada in Vancouver or WISH Canada in Toronto.

- Length of the Study Program: 2 semesters (8-12 months).
- Off-campus work permit: can be issued after 6 months of study; WISH Canada can assist students with a part-time off-campus paid work or a full-time unpaid professional internship to gain a Canadian experience before graduation (please refer to Career Management Package descriptions).
- Length of the Post-Graduation Work Permit: must equal to the study period; WISH will assist the student with a paid professional position in Canada after graduation.
- Study Module Start Date: Fall Session in September (some programs start also in January or May). Students can come several weeks or even months before the start date at the college to study and/or improve in the English language first at WISH Canada's partner language school in Toronto if they do not have TOEFL or IELTS or other accepted certificates issued outside of Canada. WISH Canada will provide students with a conditional acceptance letter for the Post Graduate Certificate Program once the candidate has registered for a preparatory language course.
- Credit Earned: Ontario College Graduate Certificate.

* Work Permit:
WISH Canada will help students apply for a Work Permit within Canada. This process requires a work permit support letter from the Campus Director. The Director in charge will review the students school attendance record to verify that the student has been attending the required classes. Then a letter will be issued to WISH Canada to obtain a work permit for the student, which is mailed to the WISH Canada office.

* Paid Non-Professional Jobs Off-Campus for Students:
Sectors include: Restaurants, Retail, Bars, Fast Food, and Service Industry. Examples of positions include:
- server (avg. pay USD9/hour)
- shop clerk (avg. pay USD9/hour)
- supermarket clerk (avg. pay USD9/hour)
- hotel housekeeper (avg. pay USD11/hour)
- food counter attendant (avg. pay USD9/hour)
- guest service
- spa attendant
- lift operator, deli clerk (starting from USD8/hour)

The jobs offered do not include office positions or 'professional' level work. Usually, the students must be available and committed for up to 6 months. These are typical student works, and the off-campus work permit allows students to work up to 20 hours per week.
Unpaid Professional Internship:

It is critical to have the Canadian professional experience to succeed in the Canadian labor market, and therefore, an unpaid professional internship is the best choice to start a career. University students and recent graduates are suitable for unpaid professional internships in different areas other than the Medical service field. The minimum internship commitment is 8 weeks. The most popular industries include:
- Engineering
- Business Administration
- Event Management
- Graphic Design
- IT
- Marketing
- Tourism
- Accounting
- Law
- Fashion
- Media
- Logistics
- Art and Culture and so forth

* Post Graduate Employment:
If students want to work in Canada after the graduation, they must apply for a work permit under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program. The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program allows students who have graduated from a participating Canadian post-secondary institution to gain valuable Canadian work experience. The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program allows students who have graduated from selected Canadian post-secondary institutions to work in Canada for no longer than the length of their study program. The maximum length for the post-graduation work permit that is issued is three years. For example, if a student graduates from a four-year degree program, they could be eligible for a three-year work permit if they meet the criteria. If a student graduates from an eight-month certificate program, she/he would be eligible for a work permit that is valid for no more than eight months.

* Registration process International candidates:
Please send your resume, the completed application form, copy of the college or university transcript in an English version and a copy of your passport. If the original transcript is not in English, the student must get and send a certified English translation.

After reviewing the documents, WISH Canada will set up a time and a date for a phone interview in order to evaluate the students English level, review the students expectations and discuss the students future plans upon completion of the program. After the phone interview, a report will be sent out - the report will show either pass, pass under conditions or refused. If the student passed the phone interview and has received the report, an invoice will be sent out. Upon receiving the invoice, the partial program payment should be made before the Letter of Acceptance is issued.
